  37. PLEASE NOTE: The statements created by Amicash may be sent to your printer
  38. by pressing F10 whilst the other options are displayed (ie the oranges
  39. boxes are visable).

  41. AmiCash was originally a program I knocked up for my own use. I always
  42. managed to totally lose track of how much money I had in my account (which
  43. isn't much!) so I decided to do something about it. AmiCash was the result.
  44.  
  45. The reason that I have released AmiCash is that I thought that some people
  46. may have a use for it, as I use it. To use is simplicity itself. It is run
  47. nigh entirely via the mouse.
  48.  
  49. Basically AmiCash just keeps track of your transactions with your
  50. account/bank, such as Direct Debit, Cheques, withdrawals etc, etc. It also
  51. cuts out the work of tapping on a calculator and scribbling on your bank
  52. statement, checking to see that they haven't made a mistake!
  53.  
  54. The Instructions.

  57. When you load, you will be firstly presented with a title screen. Simply
  58. press the left mouse to continue. You will then be asked whether you wish
  59. to start a new account or load an old one. Click in one of the boxes. LOAD
  60. will be covered later in this doc.

  62. If you clicked on NEW, you will now be presented with a black screen with
  63. this at the top:

  69. You will also see a flashing cursor under the date column. This is how your
  70. account transactions will be stored - in each column will be the date,
  71. description of transaction, amount concerned in that transaction and the
  72. final balance after that transaction. Probably very much like your bank
  73. statement that they send you.

  75. What you do now is type today's date using the format DD/MM/YY (or D/M/YY
  76. if the relevant - but remember it looks neater if you stick to the former
  77. format all of the time  - eg: 03/02/91 instead of 3/2/91). Once you press
  78. RETURN - "No Transaction" will appear under TRANSACTION, this is because
  79. you are simply setting up how much money is currently in your account so
  80. AmiCash has a starting point. "0" will also appear under AMOUNT for the
  81. same reason. You then type in the current balance of your account.

  83. The cursor will disapear and you will be presented with your account's
  84. transactions. At the moment of course there happens to be just one. To do
  85. anything else in AmiCash you have to press the right mouse button.
  86.  
  87. But before we do that, let's explain a few other things you can do whilst
  88. this display is showing. After around 27 transactions (if you get that
  89. far!), they will not all be able to be displayed on the screen at one time.
  90. To view the other transactions, you click the LEFT mouse button anywhere on
  91. the screen past the midpoint of the screen (ie the lower half of the
  92. screen); this will move onto the next page of transactions. Likewise,
  93. clicking on the upper half of the screen will move back to the previous
  94. page of transactions. You can have upto 300 transactions in AmiCash. I
  95. can't imagine anyone wanting more than that, because I suggest that after a
  96. certain amount of time you wipe over the file created by AmiCash and start
  97. again. After all, who wants to look back over their account over the last
  98. two years and look at all that lovely money they've spent?!?
  99.  
  100. When you press the right mouse button, you will be presented with a menu
  101. screen which shows most of the available options. These are activated by
  102. clicking in the relevant box with the left mouse button. These are: Open,
  103. Save, Amend, Quit, Cheque in, cheque out, withdrawal, deposit, direct
  104. debit, S/O, interest and tax.

  106. Open will allow you to load another account file into memory. Simply select
  107. the name using the requester (either by double clicking on it or typing it
  108. in).
  109.  
  110. Save will allow you to save your CURRENT account to disk for future
  111. reference. You may then use OPEN to load it back in at a later date.
  112.  
  113. Amend will allow you to change ANY detail about a transaction. You will be
  114. first asked for the date of the transaction that you wish to change. Make
  115. sure you know it before you click on AMEND. If there are more than 1
  116. transactions under that date, then they will be displayed on the screen,
  117. and you will be asked which one you wish to amend. Enter a number from 1-10
  118. to indicate which transaction you wish to change. The transaction displayed
  119. at the top most of the screen is number 1, and then descends to a relevant
  120. number.

  122. You will then be asked for which section of the entry you wish to change.
  123. This of course depends on which area of the transaction has been entered
  124. incorrectly. You have a choice of DATE, TRANSACTION and AMOUNT. Balance, of
  125. course, is not included as AmiCash will work this out automatically for
  126. you. After you press 1, 2 or 3 you will be presented with the old entry,
  127. and you can type the correct data into the area you have just specified.
  128. AmiCash will do the rest for you. If you amend the TRANSACTION area, I
  129. suggest that you do it in the same wording that AmiCash uses, otherwise you
  130. may well encounter some problems when AmiCash recalculates the balance
  131. after (if) you amend the amount of a transaction!

  133. Clicking on QUIT will prompt you with a message to click on QUIT again to
  134. confirm. Do so, and you will be thrown back to the workbench screen.
  135. Clicking on another option, or clicking the right mouse button will cancel
  136. the quit option.
  137.  
  138. The other options are used to enter your transactions as they occur, and
  139. are fairly self-explanatory. S/O stands for STANDING ORDER. Clicking on one
  140. of these options will display the transactions screen and you the flashing
  141. cursor will appear under each sub-section of the transaction in turn -
  142. simply type in the relevant data. Please note that the TRANSACTION area
  143. will be displayed automatically by AmiCash - you do not HAVE TO type
  144. anything. Most options will simply jump to AMOUNT. Some options, however,
  145. will leave the flashing cursor after the transaction description. This
  146. means that AmiCash is giving you the choice of having a little comment of
  147. your own about the transaction. It can include anything you want - just
  148. make sure that you do not enter any text past the transaction column (ie do
  149. not go into the amount column). This feature could be used, for example, to
  150. keep track of the serial number of a cheque you have just written, and/or
  151. who it was made payable to. It is entirely upto you. A example file can be
  152. found on the disk - simply click on open and double click on the name
  153. EXAMPLE.

  155. Interest and Tax options are simply there so that when you bank sends you a
  156. statement, you can see how much tax and interest they have paid/deducted
  157. and hence keep your AmiCash account upto date.

  171. If while using AmiCash, the program suddenly drops back to the workbench
  172. screen, and gives you an error, then please write to me stating what the
  173. error was, and what option you were using which made it report this error.
  174. This is so I can eliminate any bugs for future versions (if people want
  175. them!)

  181. P.S. For you hard drive owners out there, there is a program on the disk
  182. called HD_Installer which will install AmiCash onto your hard disk for you.
  183. All you have to do is load up Workbench so your hard drive is activated (ie
  184. so the system knows it is there), and then insert AmiCash disk and double
  185. click on HD_Istaller.
